EXHIBITS
SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY -

The SMP offers interactive and rotating exhibits in its new facility in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Museum hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays and weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. (386) 506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible.

Running through Feb. 13, "Photographs: 1958" By Wayne Miller. A major new survey exhibition features Miller's finest imagery from WWII and the post-war period. Many document the American wartime experience in?the Pacific, Italy and Japan and are drawn from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Also presented are Miller's important post-war documentary projects.

Through Jan. 18 is "Jill Greenberg - Photographs." Her unique stylings and interpretations of wild animals and children are in stunning large scale color. Highly conceptual, elaborately designed, and uniquely executed, Greenberg's professional work has spawned many emulators. Since the early 1990s she has been known as "The Manipulator" because of the heavily stylized, hyper-real imagery that is now her trademark. Her subjects' shimmering, saturated, supernaturally perfect skin has a luminosity and intensity than can often feel too close for comfort. Most recently, she's been in the news for her controversial take on GOP Presidential Candidate John McCain, as featured in Atlantic Monthly. (See this month's review, A&E section)

Also running to Jan. 18 is "Pedro Meyer - Heresies." Mexican photographer Meyer is widely recognized for both his provocative and powerful images and for his pioneering work in digital imaging. Meyer's vivid, magic-realist style photographs have consistently questioned the boundaries of truth, fiction and reality. Heresies is a retrospective exhibition featuring five decades of images by one of the most innovative photographic artists in the world. Heresies challenges and redefines the traditional form of photographic exhibitions by mixing large format prints with new technological elements, including digital galleries and installations that integrate audio, text and images.

Events associated with these exhibits are as follows. All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated:
Dec, 10 - 6:30 p.m. Kino Film Series: War and Protest, "Bad Day at Black Rock," (USA, 1955) - one of the first Hollywood films to deal openly with white racism toward Japanese-Americans during World War II. It combines elements of westerns and film noir to produce a powerfully tense, fast-paced suspense drama about a mysterious stranger named MacReedy who arrives at a tiny isolated desert town in the southwestern United States in search of a Japanese man named Komoko. Daytona Campus, Bldg. 1200, SMP, Madorsky Theater.?
