"The internet has to too much junk on there to even make it worth going through sometimes. Do you have any advice on how I could use the internet more effectively?"
Many people credit Robert Kahn for creating the internet.? I learned that from the internet.?
The interweb of communications is a great creation, capable of giving us easy access to limitless information. But using it properly and efficiently is a skill many people think they have, but probably don't. Sure, it is great fun to watch video after video of some kid falling off a bike or a skateboard, but the internet can offer a lot more- if you use it right.?
I start off by mentioning Google, the mega popular search engine students, children, and foreigners all use to find exactly what they are looking for. You may have noticed, and this is a common misconception for those who do not use Google regularly that it rarely gives you quite what you want. It is not as easy as typing in "cute puppies" and being littered with adorable little dogs.?
How many times have you typed in something for an image search, such as "relationship advice" and got some bizarre looking kid doing something entirely unrelated to music, perhaps picking his nose, talking to his grandma, hugging a stuffed animal... Where does a search for "rock music" get you an image of some kid in his backyard doing a handstand??
Wikipedia is far more useful than people give it credit for. The amazing thing about the site is that it lists sources for you towards the bottom of almost every page. Sure, it can be edited by anyone at any given moment, sometimes making Elvis Presley a woman born in the 1820's, or marijuana legal in Florida.?
But many people may not know that they have moderators sifting through Wikipedia ridding of clearly wrong data, clarifying sources, and editing the pages properly. Wikipedia is an amazing place to start, yet many people jump to Google where your searches are often too off the mark.?
When it comes to music, illegally downloading it may come with consequences. Beyond the fact that it is illegal, and yes you can be caught, it also comes with viruses. It is not uncommon for the new Kanye West record or the new Metallica cd to come attached to a sneaky little virus. They make your computer cough up discs from the disc drive, have a runny nose where data seems to just disappear out of your machine, or slow it down, making navigating even Wikipedia sluggish.? If unnoticed, a virus may even be fatal. This is no common cold.?
Instead of trying to find a specific answer for something, how about you just ask. There are message boards littering the internet, communities where people make accounts and ask questions, give recommendations or advice, and chat about the things that interest them. Ask questions online, even if embarrassing. They have communities for everything, and even your interests in being an anarchist, vegetarian, or cult master can be satisfied.?
It is now common practice for bands to put their music on Myspace, their websites, and streaming sites like Last.fm or Playlist.com. Myspace is a convenient place, where many artists are placing entire libraries of music. Even bad High School bands can put their music online for your enjoyment. You never need to download a thing, as the music is streamed straight from the site- virus free.?
The internet holds all the data in the world. With that said, why is there so much garbage??
The internet, statistically, is 98 percent junk and has a 96 percent effect rate on just wasting your time. But there are a few gems which make researching seamless, and obtaining specific nuggets of information a far easier task. You can listen to self-made radios online, get sources listed for you through Wikipedia, or ask questions on message boards. With all these elements, the garbage of the internet can be put aside, and one can focus on where it matters- having fun knowing things.
